This written report need to highlight what you have learnt on this module. You all had some experience in negotiating and liaising with a client so that needs including. In addition the seismic shift you were met with because of Covid meant you had to adapt and come up with new ways of working. What has this taught you about yourself and what lessons, plans, motivations will you take into the coming year?
We are still on track with some good films being made. If you did not show work today then be ready for next week. No isolation of your talent is permissible. Looking forward to seeing all your footages and rough-cuts at the usual session.
If you want to know about the future you need to know the past. I think you all need to read Naomi Klein’s book The Shock Doctrine – an investigation of how disaster capitalism benefits from a crisis like the one we are in now. It’s hugely insightful and it would help you to understand where we are at now and prepare yourself what is going to come.
Here is a brief introduction to the concept in a short documentary film by Alfonso Cuaron and Naomi Klein.
Rough Cuts – As mentioned today please get your rough-cuts ready so that we can view them during the class on Wednesday April 15. If you upload it onto your One Drive we can then share the link.
Easter Break – The Easter break is on next week but as some of you would like to meet I will set up the usual class at 11:00 on April 8. I have come up with a way we can make a film online in Zoom as an exercise in rhythmic editing.
Grade – I will set up an edit session with Steve Morris for you to ask any questions on issues you may have. This will be on April 22.
“The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word ‘crisis.’ One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger but recognise the opportunity.” JFK
It was good to see so many of you yesterday. These are difficult times to say the least but please keep on filming, the current situation could create some interesting work. There will be the same format next Wednesday April 1 starting at 11:00.
Looking forward please work towards a rough cut of your 3 minute film and send me the file by 14 April. I will upload these onto One Drive so that they we can share and discuss in the session of the 15 April. If any of you are ready the week beforehand on April 8 then send it on to me.
